WILLEMSTAD/GREAT BAY--The Central Bank of Curaçao and St. Maarten (CBCS) will enter a new leadership period on September 2, when Ference Lamp formally assumes the position of president-director of the monetary authority, according to reports in Curaçao media.
Candice Henriquez will also take office on September 2 as financial-economic director, while Leila Matroos-Lasten will remain in her position as director-secretary. The three will together form the Management Board responsible for the day-to-day leadership of the CBCS.
The appointments fill vacancies within the Central Bank's senior management and come as current president Richard Doornbosch prepares to leave the institution.
Doornbosch has already begun a series of farewell meetings with officials from both countries in the monetary union, including St. Maarten Minister of Finance Marinka Gumbs, ahead of the formal leadership transition.
Lamp's appointment places him at the head of the institution responsible for monetary policy and supervision of the financial sector within the Curaçao-St. Maarten monetary union. The CBCS plays a central role in maintaining monetary and financial stability, supervising banks and other financial institutions and contributing to economic and financial policy within the two countries.
Henriquez, as financial-economic director, will join Lamp and Matroos-Lasten at a time when the Central Bank continues to navigate financial-sector supervision, economic developments and broader monetary issues affecting both Curaçao and St. Maarten.
The changes at the Management Board level are expected to coincide with another institutional transition at the CBCS, as Curaçao and St. Maarten are also expected to complete the appointment of a new Supervisory Board.
The combination of a new president-director, a new financial-economic director and a renewed Supervisory Board will result in significant changes at the top of the institution responsible for overseeing the monetary union.
Lamp's formal assumption of office on September 2 will mark the end of Doornbosch's tenure and the beginning of a new chapter in the governance of the Central Bank.
