GREAT BAY--FREEGAN HQ will reopen on Thursday, August 20, following a two-week break, with its food market, thrift store, meal distribution and coaching services returning for the community.
The FREEGAN team said the break provided an opportunity to rest and recharge before resuming its regular work supporting individuals and families across St. Maarten.
The FREEGAN Food Market will once again welcome families currently enrolled in the program, allowing them to select groceries based on the needs of their households. The FREEGAN Thrift Store will also reopen with affordable pre-loved items, while the organization’s freezer will again be stocked with FREEGAN Meals.
FREEGAN coaches will be available on Thursday mornings. Members of the Spanish-speaking community will also be able to meet with a Spanish-speaking coach on Saturday mornings.
“We love what we do, but sometimes you need to recharge your own batteries so you can keep giving your best to others,” says the FREEGAN team. “We are very happy to be back, full of energy and ready to continue supporting our community. Because for us, sharing really is caring.”
As FREEGAN prepares to reopen, the organization is also renewing its appeal to supermarkets across St. Maarten to donate edible surplus food rather than discard products that can no longer be sold but remain safe and suitable for consumption.
FREEGAN said surplus fruits, vegetables, bread, groceries and other food products can make a significant difference for families struggling with household expenses.
The organization is encouraging supermarkets and other businesses to view surplus food as an opportunity to both reduce waste and provide practical support to people in need.
By redirecting edible products to FREEGAN, businesses can help ensure that food which might otherwise be discarded reaches families who can use it.
FREEGAN hopes more businesses will participate in what it describes as a simple cycle of sharing, where products that no longer have commercial value to one business can still have significant value to another household.
Supermarkets and other businesses with surplus food to donate are encouraged to contact FREEGAN via WhatsApp at+1 721 580 7174.
FREEGAN HQ will resume its regular community services from Thursday, August 20.
