GREAT BAY--Former Member of Parliament Theo Heyliger has been discharged from the hospital and transferred back to prison, according to an update Tuesday from his wife, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Tourism, Economic Affairs, Transport and Telecommunication Grisha Heyliger-Marten.

“Theo was discharged from the hospital today and has been transferred back to the prison. Thankfully, his latest tests were positive and he is doing much better. At this point, our main focus is making sure he is properly cared for, continues to recover, and that there is a clear medical plan in place for him going forward,” Heyliger-Marten said.

The Minister did not provide additional details regarding the medical condition that resulted in Heyliger’s hospitalization, but indicated that the latest developments in his health have been encouraging. Her comments place the immediate focus on his continued medical care and recovery following his return to the prison.

Heyliger is currently incarcerated, and his health and eventual reintegration have previously been addressed publicly by Heyliger-Marten. She has said previously that her husband was doing well, though frustrated, and described the period as one centered on healing, restoration and preparing for a healthy transition back into society when the time comes.

At the time, Heyliger-Marten also appealed for respect for the family as it navigates his incarceration, while stressing that her priority remained carrying out her responsibilities as a minister and supporting her family through what she described as a difficult personal period.
