PHILIPSBURG, Sint Maarten — The Sint Maarten Police Force would like to take the opportunity through this press release to inform the general public of the short visit of Princess Beatrix to the island from today Wednesday 11th December 2019.
On the 12th December the island is expected to have five cruise ships in port. Through the visit of the Princess, the five cruise ships as well as the holiday season, we are expecting the traffic to be a bit heavier than usual and ask that all road users be cautious and courteous while making use of the road ways.
The KPSM would like to remind the heavy equipment owner/operators about using public roads during the hours when this is not allowed. The hours known as the “peak hours,” during which heavy equipment is not allowed to use the public roads, are daily, not including holidays and weekends, from 6:30 to 8:30am and 12:00 to 2:30pm. These measures are in accordance with article 60-A of the Traffic Ordinance of the Windward Island. (Artikel 60-A Wegenverkeersverordening van Sint Maarten )
If it is possible for road users to avoid or adjust their visit the Cole Bay/Simpson Bay area during the late afternoon hours persons can avoid unnecessary time spent in traffic as well as help to alleviate the traffic in the area.
We will be throughout the different areas of the community trying our utmost to ensure that the traffic flows as smoothly as possible and we ask that the community cooperates in making this possible.
Because to the upcoming holiday season and other happenings the Sint Maarten Police Force is well aware how frustrating it can be trying to commute on the road ways and are asking the general public to keep these traffic safety tips in mind to help make the roads safer for all.
With the help of the community the Sint Maarten Police force can better assist you in having a safe and merry holiday season.
