Great Bay, St. Maarten – St. Maarten amateur boxers was in Curaçao part taking in the CuraBox event which was held on Saturday, June 1 where Stephan Duzong fought against Kevin Schaarbaai and lost by judges decision 3-2 which was a bit controversial.
In addition to that match, Malcolm Philips fought against Grego Schaarbaai and won judges decision 4-1. Malcolm also won “Best Boxer” for the event second year in a row.
721news was told that this event was a warm up for the guys because on June 5th they will be traveling to Punta Gorda Florida for the Sugar Bert National Qualifiers. This will be their second time attending this event, and they are looking forward to representing St. Maarten in the United States of America again.
Both boxers will be fighting as Middleweight Elite boxers. The Sugar Bert tournament is a highly recognized tournament in America and it develops a lot of amateur boxers before they go to the professional level.
