
On Tuesday, November 11, representatives of Saint Martin and Sint Maarten gathered at Bellevue monument to celebrate together the 66th edition of SXM's Day, a symbol of an island unity maintained for more than half a century.
Alongside Governor Ajamu Baly, Prefect Cyrille Le Vély, and the Prime Minister of Sint Maarten, Luc Mercelinaand the President of the Collectivity of Saint-Martin, Louis Mussington, the authorities laid wreaths of flowers in tribute to Franco-Dutch friendship and to the shared memory of the island's inhabitants.
This official ceremony preceded the grand afternoon parade in Philipsburgwhere musicians, dancers and cultural associations thrilled the crowd in an explosion of colours and rhythms.
In his speech, Louis Mussington emphasized the importance of concrete cooperation in the service of employment, sustainable development and shared tourismrecalling that this day symbolizes the strength of a constant dialogue between the two governments. A desire shared by Luc Mercelina who intends “to strengthen the ties which unite the two shores of our island and proudly celebrate the common heritage that makes us Saint-Martinois.”
Under the theme “One island, one people, one destiny"," SXM's Day 2025 once again highlighted the spirit of unity and mutual respect that unites all the inhabitants of Saint-Martin around their culture, their history and a friendship looking towards the future.
