PHILIPSBURG – Tropical Carnival was named Best Troupe for the Children Carnival Parade 2019, it was announced on Sunday. Tropical is led by Troupe leader Sade Hodge. The troupe bore the name “Soaring Ruler of the Skies”.
Tropical also won Best Road Piece honors. 2nd Place for Best Troupe went to Jolly Jumpers. Jolly Jumpers also had the Best Individual Piece for individual #4 and Best Float which depicted a confetti cake.
On Sunday April 28, 2019, the Sint Maarten Carnival Development Foundation (SCDF) presented the Children’s Parade, combined with a Cultural Parade supported by efforts of the Department of Culture.
It was decided that the Department of Culture would expand the cultural presence in Carnival.
This year the collaboration was broadened to include both a Cultural Parade and Cultural Night showcase. The Children’s Parade was augmented to include a cultural presentation.
