PHILIPSBURG:—On Friday 6th, The Mental Health Foundation (M.H.F.) presented Shola Scott, a journalism graduate, and Sara Bharwani, a student from Learning Unlimited, with their prizes and Certificates of Appreciation for participating and winning the “Within The Dark” Competition.
Mental Health Foundation, the leading secondary health care provider offering psychiatric and psychological mental health services to the inhabitants of St. Maarten and neighboring Islands, believes that good mental health and emotional health enhances the ability to cope with life’s struggles and help improve medical conditions and recovery. Therefore the project, Within the Dark, was created to highlight the importance of mental health, wherein both the clients and the public were involved in creating creative content to raise awareness.
Last Friday, August 3rd, the award ceremony was held at the Mental Health Foundation, thanking all those who participated in the competition created to give people the opportunity to use their voice in a way to shred the stigma. Among Shola Scott and Sara Bharwani, the clients of Faraja were also present to receive their certificates and gifts – candles created by one of the clients.
The written materials and art works collected from the competition will be compiled in an anthology; this anthology will go by the name “Within The Dark”, and it will be compiled and edited by Julie Alcin, Information & Prevention Assistant of M.H.F.
The Mental Health Foundation would like to thank all those contributed, and would like to encourage the community to actively join the conversation and the fight against mental health stigma.
