PHILIPSBURG:— As the dust settles after St. Maarten's pivotal Parliamentary Snap Election on August 19, Member of Parliament and Leader of the United People's Party MP Omar E.C. Ottley expresses hope for a renewed sense of unity and shared purpose across the island and in Parliament. The elections, which showcased the vibrancy of democracy in St. Maarten, have set the stage for a period of collaboration aimed at reinforcing the island's reputation as a premier tourism destination and the pride of the Caribbean.
In a heartfelt message, Member of Parliament and Leader of the United Peoples Party (UP), Omar E.C. Ottley, extended his warmest congratulations to Prime Minister Dr Luc Mercelina for securing the highest number of votes of any candidate in this election. MP Ottley also congratulated the candidates from the other political parties who had secured seats in Parliament. He expressed profound gratitude to the citizens of St. Maarten, both for their support of the UP Party and their commitment to a peaceful and respectful electoral process.
"Whenever you campaign, you campaign based on the differences between political parties, and when you govern, you govern based on the similarities and mutual love and respect for the people of St. Maarten," MP Ottley remarked, encapsulating a spirit of cooperation.
He emphasized that the time has come to put political differences aside and focus on the shared goal of rebuilding and strengthening St. Maarten's global standing. "The United Peoples Party is ready to roll up its sleeves and work with anyone who desires to make St. Maarten the pride of the Caribbean," he said.
The United Peoples Party is committed to turning words into action, recognizing that the road ahead will require collaboration, resilience, and a deep dedication to the welfare of the people. MP Ottley expressed a genuine belief that, with a unified approach, St. Maarten can emerge stronger and more vibrant than ever before.
“As the island prepares to move forward, it is important to emphasize unity, shared values, and mutual respect in realizing the vision of making St. Maarten a beacon of prosperity in the region. The UP-Party’s message is clear: the time for division is over, and collective action must begin as the world is watching, and St. Maarten is ready to shine.
