Hon. Prime Minister,
It was only two days ago that you visited me in St. Maarten to offer your personal support and that of the government and people of Dominica to us following the catastrophic destruction which Hurricane Irma - the strongest superstorm to ever hit the Caribbean caused on our island. Who could have foreseen then that you would be facing a similar unprecedented disaster in your beloved Commonwealth of Dominica, with another monster storm, Maria.
It saddens me to learn about your personal ordeal in losing the roof to your official residence during the hurricane and having to be rescued from your flooded hone. In the midst of this nightmare, we still have to be grateful for life.
Please accept my most sincere expression of solidarity and support during these very trying times for you, and the government and people of the Commonwealth of Dominica.
On behalf of the government and people of St. Maarten, I wish you, the government and the people of Dominica much courage and strength as you pick up the pieces like we have to do here in St. Maarten and rebuild your country step by step.
We stand with you in these very difficult times as you have stood with us throughout our own trials and tribulations.
I believe that the spirit of brotherhood and cooperation which has characterized our mutual relationship will ensure that our two countries will emerge from these disasters stronger and better.
Please accept the assurances of my highest consideration and esteem.
