PHILIPSBURG:— On December 13, 2018, The Rotary Club of St. Martin Sunset hosted the Rotary International President Barry Rassin, as well as Government officials from the Dutch and French sides of St. Maarten, to a Meet & Greet Breakfast at Divi Little Bay Resort.
In attendance were the Governor of St. Maarten, His Excellency Eugene Holiday, Prime Minister of St. Maarten Leona Romeo-Marlin, Minister of Tourism, Economic Affairs , Transport and Telecommunications Stuart Johnson, Senator of Saint Martin Guillame Arnell, Deputy of Saint Martin and Saint Barthelemy Claire Javois, Rotary International President Barry Rassin, District Governor Patrick Adizua and his wife Lesline, Assistant Governor Marcelia Henry, District Governor Nominee Designate Louis Wever and his wife Amanda, Past District Governor Victor Gibbs, Presidents and Secretaries of all the Rotary Clubs on the island, as well as a few specially invited Rotarians.
During the breakfast, Rotary was applauded for their work on the island of Sint Maarten, and the world.
The Rotary Club of St. Martin Sunset, which celebrated their Charter Ceremony the night before, was congratulated on becoming the fifth Rotary club on the island, boasting 41 members between the ages of 25 and 46.
Rotary International President Barry Rassin, from the Rotary Club of East Nassau, New Providence, Bahamas expressed his appreciation to the club members for the great work that they have been doing in the short time that they have been an official club. He was impressed with projects such as the donation of household items to the Mental Health Foundation, Reach One-Feed One Homeless Feeding, the launch of a free mini library located in Marigot among many others. He encouraged the clubs to work together to do greater projects and have a bigger impact on our communities.
The Meet & Greet Breakfast provided an opportunity for the Government officials to have intimate conversations with the Rotary officials present, and learn about the great impact that Rotary has had, not just on Sint Maarten, but on the wider world.
