Rotary Sunset Welcomes Rotary International President Bassin.

AIRPORT:— Invited by the Rotary Club of St. Martin Sunset, Rotary International President, Barry Rassin, received a grand welcome at the SXM Airport on Wednesday 12, 2018. President Rassin, a key contributor in the club being established, was surprised when a customized welcome message was read over the intercom by the aircraft’s handler announcing his presence. Once he exited the aircraft, Minister of TEATT and Rotarian, Stuart Johnson, welcomed the RI President behalf of the Ministry of TEATT and presented him with gifts from the Tourist Bureau. President of the Rotary Club of St. Martin Sunset, Jaida Nisbett, placed a customized St. Martin’s flag scarf around his neck. Also present at the brief welcoming of the RI President on the airport’s ramp was Club Secretary and Charter Ceremony Planning Chair, Elisia Lake, Club Administration Chair Shemaiah Fleming, Club member and airport correspondent Magdiona Gumbs and District Governor Nominee Designate Mr. Louis Wever and his wife, acting as the RI President’s aide during his visit.

At the arrival area, President Rassin was greeted by the cultural dancers from the National Institute of Arts (NIA) who gave a spectacular performance of the Ponum Dance. Also present to welcome the RI President to the island were Carnival kings, Vers, Kenyo and King James, Carnival Queens, Shanice Powell, Micheline Hunte and Shakainah Pompier-Arrindell. On behalf of the Rotary Club of St. Martin Sunset, Senior Carnival Queen Shanice welcomed the RI President to the friendly island and presented him with a St. Maarten shaped wooden cutout, which was layered by Laserit.

Rotary District 7020 Governor Patrick and his wife Lesline Adizua including members from the other Rotary clubs on the island and Anguilla were all present as they eagerly awaited the arrival of the RI President. After the exchange of hugs and kisses and welcome remarks from his Rotary family, RI President Barry was later escorted to his hotel in preparation for his Keynote Address at the Official Charter Ceremony for the Rotary Club of St. Martin Sunset. The Rotary Club of St. Martin Sunset would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the organizers and participants who assisted in making the RI President Barry’s welcome a memorable one.
