Sint Maarten Police Force Addresses Illegal Parking in Philipsburg. | SMN NEWS

PHILIPSBURG:— The Sint Maarten Police Force (KPSM) is urging motorists to cease the illegal and irresponsible practice of parking in prohibited areas, particularly on the sidewalks and roads near the police station in Philipsburg.

Over the past years, some individuals have continued to park their vehicles unlawfully, even on the sidewalk adjacent to the police station, despite police warnings and fines. These actions have disrupted pedestrian access, compromised road safety, and shown blatant disregard for traffic regulations.

Following consultations with the Ministry of VROMI, concrete blocks were installed near the sidewalk to prevent its use as a parking area. However, instead of resolving the issue, drivers have shifted their parking to the roadway itself, further aggravating the situation. This has led to significant traffic disruptions, turning N. Debrot Street into a single-lane passage, with adverse consequences for taxis and other road users.

The police will issue fines to drivers who park their vehicles on the road in a manner that obstructs the free flow of traffic.
Drivers are reminded to obey the traffic sign posted at the entrance of N. Debrot Street, which clearly prohibits parking in this location.

The Sint Maarten Police Force strongly urges all motorists to comply with traffic laws and avoid parking in restricted areas. This cooperation is essential to ensure the safety, efficiency, and accessibility of roads for all users.

Drivers are encouraged to use designated parking areas and refrain from engaging in practices that inconvenience others or pose safety risks. The police remain committed to enforcing traffic laws and will take necessary measures to curb this ongoing issue.
