Vincent Berton, delegate prefect of the Northern Islands, Xavier Lédée, president of the Collectivity of Saint-Barthélemy and Nicolas de Roland, director of the CROSS Antilles-Guyane officially inaugurated on Friday June 30 the installation of the CROSS antenna on the TDF site in Lurin.
The CROSS Antilles-Guyane is the operational center responsible for coordinating operations to rescue human lives at sea and assist ships in difficulty under the authority of the prefects of Martinique and Guyana, government delegates for the action of the State at Sea in the West Indies and Guyana. Its communication capabilities are therefore vital for detecting alerts and collecting the information necessary for the smooth running of operations, coordinating the action of the various means called upon to intervene and transmitting safety information to navigators.
The installation of a VHF station in Saint-Barthélemy now makes it possible to increase marine VHF coverage, including by reducing shadow areas, and to strengthen the safety at sea of navigators (sailors, fishermen and yachtsmen) and rescue at sea in the area. This operation was 95% financed by European ERDF – INTERREG aid, which also included the installation of a temporary VHF station after the passage of Irma and the re-commissioning of the Pic Paradis VHF station in Saint -Martin.
