During the press conference organized by the Center for Excellence and Education through Sport (CEES), Charles-Henri Palvair, Managing Director, announced news that will delight all young athletes in the area: Saint-Martin will participate for the first time at the Games of the Islands next May, in Ajaccio.

The Collectivity of Saint-Martin is, for the first time, invited to participate in the 25th edition of the Island Games, a sports competition for young people aged 14 to 16 imagined by Pierre Santoni, President of the Regional Olympic and Sports Committee of Corsica (CROS), and organized for the first time in 1997 in Ajaccio, Corsica. The Island Games Organizing Committee (COJI) aims to promote the values ​​of community life and social integration through sport, while promoting collaboration between islands around the world. Twenty-three islands or archipelagos participate: the Azores, the Balearic Islands, the Canaries, the Cape Verde Islands, Cyprus, Corfu, Corsica, Crete, Elba Island, the Faroe Islands, Guadeloupe, Haiti, Jersey, Korčula, Madeira, Malta, Martinique, Mayotte, French Polynesia, Réunion, Sardinia, Sicily and Wight. For this 25th edition, the event will take place from May 22 to 27, 2023 in Ajaccio, where it all began. The territory of Saint-Martin will be represented at the Games of the Islands 2023 by five disciplines: athletics, football, basketball, gymnastics and tennis. The Saint-Martin delegation will be made up of 55 people, including 37 athletes, 16 delegate coaches and referees, a journalist from the Collectivity of Saint-Martin and a head of delegation.
