GREAT BAY, (DCOMM) – Ministry VROMI is advising motorists to avoid the following roads and intersections due to localised flooding:
– Cay Hill round-a-bout up to Puma Road;
– L.B. Scott Road to Cake House and the Emilio Wilson Estate/Ballfield area;
– Zagersgut area from the gas station to the Methodist Church;
– Dutch Quarter area has some localised flooding.
Ministry VROMI advises motorists who do not need to be on the road to stay off the road; otherwise, motorists must drive with caution on the road network and to be aware of street flooding during heavy rain showers; reiterating, avoid flooded areas or flood prone areas; those driving along hillsides should drive with caution and beware of rock-falls and possible land-slides.
Contractors are checking the trenches for any blockages and will clear them immediately.
The Great Bay Beach channel that connects with the Fresh Water Pond has been opened to allow water to flow into the sea.
Ministry VROMI is currently carrying out assessments to the road network in other districts and the public and motorists will be advised of any bottlenecks due to the heavy rainfall.
According to the Meteorological Department of Sint Maarten, an active Tropical Wave is influencing the weather. A heavy rainfall advisory is in effect until Monday evening.
